Of some of our tours – the San Pedro highlights, you will find a description below.
Our services are all operated on a shared basis, subject to demand; small to medium sized groups, accessible to anyone of average or better physical condition.
They are conducted in English and Spanish, of course. As we are but a small company, advance reservations are important; by just showing up you run the risk of not being able to participate in a way where you can properly adjust to altitude or maximize your experience. There is no extra charge for on-line reservations and payment.
For reservations or additional information, please fill out the contact form – we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley)
Mainly guided walks through the colorful geology of the Cordillera de la Sal, composed of eroding salts and minerals. Canyon walls of crackling halite, warm sand dunes to run down, dramatic shades and shadows that play optical tricks – great photo opportunities. Then sunset high up from the edge of the crater of the Moon Valley - you will feel like you are on another planet! .
National Reserve "Los Flamencos"
Our first stop is the Salar de Atacama: gray-white salt flats interspersed with wetlands, fragile habitat to endemic and migrating birds, e.g., pink flamingos. We then slowly ascend to the highland, where deep blue lakes Miscanti and Miñiques mirror their namesake volcanoes, and take a stroll through a near-hidden gorge, the Quebrada de Jere: your fantasy of a desert oasis. A day to enjoy three, stunning contrasts!
Tatio - The Geysers
An early start, catching the sunrise up at the geothermal field. We first spend a good three hours exploring, on foot: steaming, spouting geysers, bubbling hot mud, green, yellow and orange algae – all in an ancient yet active volcanic setting; time also for a relaxing soak in a hot pool. Coming back down slowly from the slopes of the Andes, there is still a variety of flora and fauna to observe, and great scenery to enjoy.
Optionally and additionally to Tatio, we can visit three indigenous settlements full of history: Caspana, Lasana and Chiu Chiu. This particular service (subject to demand) includes a courtesy transfer to Calama Airport.
Full day up in the Cordillera de los Andes – far from civilization, close to the heavens. We take you places not mentioned in the guide books: no other people out there, just you and us. Our special CosmoAndino treat!
